When remodeling the bungalow to fit their personality, they did minor structural repairs because they wanted to keep the history of the cottage in tact. They preserved the architecture with the respect of homeowners who truly love their abode.
While this cottage is not how most Americans picture famous Hollywood actors living, it helps to know that even stars need to feel grounded and get back to the basics of life.

So charming, Genevieve! I am not as familiar with Marthas Vineyard as I am with Nantucket, where we have vacationed many times. The island is covered with hundreds of grey shingled cottages. When we were last there, we rented a tiny home that had a great history. It had originally been built as a fishing shack and had been in the same family for many generations. The tiny home was filled with old china and furniture that were family heirlooms. I've been in a number of different vacation rentals but none so personal as this.

ReplyDeleteOh Judy, I so hope you are right about 2011! And those of you wondering about Judy calling me Marie, that is my middle name, which my family has always used. Judy is one of my sister's best friends and has always known me as Marie.
ReplyDeleteSusan, thanks so much for sharing your experience at that beautiful little cottage on Nantucket. I have never been to either island, but one of my dearest friends adores Nantucket and takes her family there every year. Someday I hope to visit, but for now I am an armchair traveler.
